Deckled / Support

A little help.

We’re here when you need a hand.

For help, feedback, or privacy questions, email emberandpinesoftware@gmail.com.

Please share your app version, iPhone model, iOS version, and what happened. Use disposable examples. Never send journal entries, backup files, passwords, or encryption keys.

Keep a backup you can trust.

Open Deckled’s Settings and choose Backups & exports, then Full Journal Backup. Choose a strong password of at least 12 characters and save the .jrn file somewhere you control.

Check that the file reached its destination and test a restore before relying on it. Store the password safely and separately. We cannot reset it or recover your writing without a working backup and its password.

Full backups include every saved entry and have a 32 MB archive limit. Larger journals take longer to process. Keep Deckled open until the operation finishes.

Restore without replacing your journal.

Choose Restore encrypted backup, select your .jrn file, and enter its password. Deckled shows a summary before you confirm adding entries.

Identical entries are skipped. Different versions are preserved as copies. A wrong password or invalid archive is rejected. If something goes wrong, keep the original backup unchanged and contact us with the error message.

Moving phones or reinstalling?

Make and verify an encrypted backup first. Deckled has no account or automatic developer cloud sync. Uninstalling the app, losing the device, or losing its encryption key can make the local journal unavailable.

If Deckled will not open, do not uninstall it as a first troubleshooting step. Contact us before taking an action that could remove your local data.

App lock and Face ID.

Optional app lock uses your device’s authentication. After a successful Face ID scan, a brief wait can occur while Deckled returns to the foreground and opens your journal. Foregrounding alone does not authenticate you.

If authentication fails or the app stays locked after a successful scan, report what you see. Never send your device passcode or biometric information.

Readable exports and reminders.

Plain text and Markdown exports are readable by anyone who can open the file. Choose a destination you trust.

On iOS, writing reminders are optional and off by default. You can change them in Settings. They stay local and never contain your journal text.
